Investment Casting 101
Looking for an effective way to produce metal components with complex shapes and sizes? The investment casting process may be the perfect solution. With investment casting, one can create almost any configuration of a desired part in a cost-effective and time-saving manner.
Investment casting is a manufacturing process in which a wax pattern is created and then coated with a ceramic slurry to create a mold. The wax is then melted out of the ceramic mold and molten metal is poured into the cavity. The molten metal solidifies and the ceramic shell is then broken or blasted off, creating a metal casting. This method has several advantages over other production processes.
Benefits of Investment Casting:
- Alternative to other manufacturing processes like machining and stamping
- Highly accurate parts
- Produces high-quality components quickly
- Economical Manufacturing process
- Wide range of alloys – including bronze, steel, aluminum, iron, and brass
